Series Theme: ROAD TO SPIRITUAL RENEWAL (Pt.4)

Unhypocritical Love
The Outcome of Our
Self-Surrender to God

Romans 12:9-21

Introduction:

Verses 9-21 continue the theme Paul is addressing in this chapter. He now speaks about our: Thinking About the Brethren. These verses are filled with challenges for Christians to live together as a God-honoring family before the Lord and the world. These verses, if they are regarded and applied, would revolutionize the average Christian’s life. There are three basic thoughts in view here as we think about Unhypocritical Love – The Outcome of Our Self-Surrender to God.: What our actions, attitudes, and affections toward other Christians should be.

I.  What Our Actions Toward Other Christians Should Be:
Romans 12:9-15

II. What Our Attitudes Toward Other Christians Should Be:
Romans 12:16-17

A.  Maintain harmony in the church (v.16a)

B.  Don’t get the BIG-HEAD (v.16b)

C.  Don’t repay evil for evil (v.17a)

D.  Value what is right (v.17b)

III.  What Our Affections Toward Other Christians Should Be:
       Romans 12:18-21

A.  Live in peace with all people (v.18, If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men”)

B.  Never take personal revenge (v.19, “Do not avenge . . .”)

C.  Treat enemies with respect (v.20, “Therefore, if your enemy . . .”)

D.  Overpower evil with good (v.21, “Do not be overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good”)

 CONCLUSION:

Well, how do you look when you are laid alongside the word of God in this chapter? Is there room for improvement in your walk with fellow believers here at GBC? If so, there is no better time than now to make the necessary adjustments in your life so that you will be everything the Lord saved you to be. I personally don’t think there is anything in the world harder than living with other people. They never do just like you want them to! But, since I can’t control them, I am left with nothing to do but to control myself by yielding to the Holy Spirit. Let us be honest about our own lives today. If there are matters that need to be adjusted, come to Jesus Christ and He will see that they get straightened out for you!
