The Mother Who Wouldn’t Give Up”

Matthew 15:21-28

Introduction:

As I preach this text today, I want you to get something from it.  I want you to know that there is hope for your situation today.  No matter what it is you think you need today, God holds the key to it.  I want to take this text and the plight of this dejected mother and share a few thoughts that teach us about HE MOTHER WHO WOULDN’T GIVE UP!   Let’s examine this passage together and find the help we need for our own lives today.

I.  This Persevering Mother’s Petition:  Matt. 15:21-22

A. She requests Christ’s mercy (v.22a, Have mercy on me, O  LORD, son of David!)

B. She relates her agony (v.22b, “My daughter is severely demon possessed).

II. This Persevering Mother’s Determination:  Matt. 15:23-27

A.  Determination will help you overcome severe obstacles  (vv.23-27).

1. She had to overcome race.

2. She had to overcome religion.

3. She had to overcome racism.

4. She had to overcome rejection.

B.  Determination will help you exhibit a great faith (vv.26-27) (cf. Mark 7:27, Let the children be filled first, for it is not  good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs).

III. This Persevering Mother’s Reward:  Matt. 15:28

A.  Jesus commended her faith (v.28a, O woman, great is your faith!”)

B.  Jesus heals her daughter (v.28b, And her daughter was healed from that very hour”).

Conclusion:

A little crumb from the Lord’s table might be all you need today.  Others may need Him to drop the whole platter down for you. I don’t know what you need or where you are today; but I know a God who can meet you where you are and help you get what you need today.

Regardless of what you need today, you can come to Jesus and you can get it.  Even if you have sought Him for it in the past and received no answer, today might be the day when He says, Let it be to you as you desire.”    Has He spoken to you today?  Get to Him and get what you need from Him.
