Sermon Series – HE’S MORE THAN WONDERFUL #21
“Jesus Christ – The Incomparable One”
The book of Colossians was written to a church that was embroiled in heresy. The problem in the Colossian church has come to be known as the Colossian Heresy. This was a part of the Gnostic movement in the early church. In the minds of the Gnostics, Jesus was not enough for salvation. The Gnostics believed that deeper spiritual knowledge was the path to salvation. They believed they could actually become gods themselves by obtaining greater spiritual knowledge and by separating from the physical world, which they viewed as evil.
In the passage before us today, Paul clearly refutes the Gnostic’s heretical teachings about Jesus Christ. Paul shows us that Jesus is our Sovereign Savior.
I would like to spend our time in this closing message of our series, HE’S MORE THAN WONDERFUL, to show you the ways in which Jesus Christ is “Incomparable”. I want to preach on the subject: Jesus Christ – THE INCOMPARABLE ONE: We will note that Jesus Christ is Incomparable in His prominence, in His authority, and in His salvation.
I. Jesus Christ is Incomparable in His Prominence: Col. 1:15-18
A. Christ’s nature is incomparable (v.15)
B. Christ’s significance is incomparable (v.17a)
C. Christ’s headship is incomparable (v.18)
II. Jesus Christ is Incomparable in His Authority: Col. 1:16-18
A. Christ has authority over all His creation (v.16)
B. Christ has authority over all His creatures (v.17)
C. Christ has authority over all His Church (v.18)
III. Jesus Christ is Incomparable in His Salvation: Col. 1:14
A. The price of Christ’s salvation (v.14, “through His blood”)
B. The power of Christ’s salvation (vv. 14, 20-22)
C. The proof of Christ’s salvation (v.23)
My whole point in preaching this series was to remind us Who Jesus is, to remind us that He is worthy to be worshiped, and to call us to fall before Him in love, adoration and thanksgiving. He is MORE THAN WONDERFUL and we should know Him, love Him and obey Him.
