“Jesus Christ: The Extraordinary Teacher”

John 3:1-16

Introduction:

John chapter 3 gives us a portrait of Jesus as the Extraordinary Teacher. We must remember that when Jesus came to this earth, He came to teach men how to flee darkness and come to the light; how to flee death and have eternal life. In John chapter 4, we find Jesus carrying out this ministry as a teacher. Here, He gets the opportunity to teach a teacher, and He does just that! In this passage, one of the best known in the New Testament, Jesus has a personal encounter with a man named Nicodemus.

This morning, let’s join Jesus, The Extraordinary Teacher in His classroom. I want to preach this morning on this thought: Jesus Christ: The Extraordinary Teacher. As Jesus teaches Nicodemus the truth about salvation, He shares a few insights about the new birth that we need to hear: the must, mystery and means of the new birth.

I. Jesus Christ Teaches Us About the MUST of The New Birth:
John 3:1-7

A. Human nature makes the new birth a must (vv.1-2)

1. Being rich is not enough –
2. Being respectable is not enough –
3. Being religious is not enough –

B. Heaven’s nature makes the new birth a must (v.3)

II. Jesus Christ Teaches Us About the MYSTERY of The New
Birth: John 3:4-8

A. The new birth is compared to “physical birth” (vv.4-7)

1. Physical birth provides life –

2. Physical birth only happens once –

3. Physical birth takes place because of suffering –

4. Physical birth gives the infant a new start –

B. The new birth is compared to “the wind” (v.8)

III. Jesus Christ Teaches Us About the MEANS of The New
Birth: John 3:9-15

A. Jesus Christ’s role in the new birth (vv.13-14, 16)

B. The sinner’s role in the new birth (v.15)

CONCLUSION:
If we have learned nothing else from the Master Teacher this morning, I think it is plain to see that God loves sinners and has done everything to provide for their salvation. He has done everything possible to draw you to Himself, except using force. Why not make this the day when the sacrifice of Jesus becomes relevant in your life?
