“God’s Mandate for His Church”

Acts 2:22-47

Introduction:

The church that came into existence on the Day of Pentecost was a sight to behold. To understand the kind of church the church in the book of Acts was, we need only look at the verses set aside for our today’s study. This passage reveals God’s Mandate for His Church. These verses speak about the characteristics that should be the distinguishing marks of God’s church (our church).

If we dare, let’s lay our church alongside this template and see how well we line up with God’s Mandate for His Church. Such mandate demands that we: preach the right message; be made up of the right people, and, follow the right agenda:

 I.  Mandate #1 – We Must Preach The Right Message:  Acts 2:22-37

A.  What our message says about The SAVIOR (vv.22-37)

B.   What our message says about SIN (vv.23, 36)

C.  What our message says about SALVATION (vv.38-40)

D.  What our message says about God’s SOVEREIGNTY (v.39, as many as the Lord our God will call”).

II.  Mandate #2 – We Must Be Made Up Of The Right People: Acts 2:37-41

A.  Our church should be made up of SAVED PEOPLE (vv.37, 40-41)

B.  Our church should be made up of SANCTIFIED PEOPLE (vv.42-45)

1. Sanctified people are separated (v.42a)

2. Sanctified people are steadfast (v.42b)

3. Sanctified people are servant-minded (vv.44-45)

III. Mandate #3 – We Must Follow The Right Agenda: Acts 2:41-47

A.  God’s agenda involves our worshiping together as a family (vv.42, 46-47)

B.  God’s agenda involves our working together as a team (vv.44-45)

C.  God’s agenda involves our walking together as friends (vv.42, 46)

D.  God’s agenda involves our witnessing together as saints (v.47)

CONCLUSION:

How well does GBC fit God’s mandate? Are we the kind of individuals and church God can use for His glory?
