“Our Extraordinary Significance in The Church”

1 Corinthians 12:12-27

Introduction:

This morning, I would like to preach on the subject: Our Extraordinary Significance in The Church. As I expound 1 Cor. 12:12-27, I hope you will see that even though we are not like someone else, and even though we may not possess the gifts we want, we are still important to the proper functioning of Christ’s body in the world. Let’s find our placement, position, and purpose in the body of Christ, the Church.

I.  The Significance of Our Placement in The Church: 1 Cor. 12:13

A.  Our placement in the church was personal (“For by one Spirit we were all”)

B.  Our placement in the church was eternal (“For by one Spirit we were all baptized into on body”)

II. The Significance Of Our Position in The Church: 1 Cor. 12:14-24

A.  We are all essential for the proper functioning of our church (v.14)

B.  We are all strategically placed to function in our church (vv.15-20)

C.  We are all valuable and needed by everyone in our church (vv.21-24)

III. The Significance of Our Purpose in The Church: 1 Cor. 12:25-27)

A.  Our purpose is to promote unity in our church (v.25a)

B.  Our purpose is to practice mutual care in our church (vv.25b-26)

C.  Our purpose is to participate in ministry in our church (v.27)

CONCLUSION:

You may not possess the giftedness or the position occupied by another. You may not even know what your gifts are. Let me encourage you today to come before the Lord and ask Him to show you what your gift, or gifts, may be. At the very moment you received Jesus into your heart as Savior, God in heaven placed you into the body of Christ. When He did, He gave you certain gifts to be used for His glory and for the good of the entire body.
